Where is Holbox located?
Holbox “black hole” in Maya it is a tropical island located within the Nature Reserve of Yum Balam 75 km (47 miles) northwest of the Cancun airport, in front of chiquila port. Its population is approximately 2,200. There are no paved roads, only sand paths. If you're flying from the US or Canada, look down maybe you can see it.
Punta Coco is located on the west side where bioluminescence can be observed on dark nights between April and November.
On the other hand is Punta Mosquito located on the east side of the island where you can walk in the middle of the sea on the sandbank.

How to get to Isla Holbox?
Most travelers reach Cancun first, as it's a major gateway to the region. You can fly directly to Cancun International Airport (CUN) from various international destinations. After that there are two options.
1. From Cancun, you'll need to make your way to the small coastal town of Chiquila. This is the departure point for ferries to Isla Holbox. You can get to Chiquila by car (rental or private transfer), bus, or shuttle service.
Once in Chiquila, you'll take a ferry to Isla Holbox. Ferries run regularly throughout the day. Travel time 03:00 hrs.
2. Flying.
Can I fly from Cancun to Holbox direct?
Yes, you can and it is a wonderful experience. Traveling by airplane from Cancun to Holbox is a good option because it allows you to save time and avoid the long lines and waits that can occur with ground transportation and ferry services. The flight time is only about 20-30 minutes, which is much faster than the several hours it can take by ferry or ground transportation. Additionally, flying in a small airplane can be a unique and exciting experience, offering amazing aerial views of the Yucatan Peninsula and the Caribbean Sea.
